Salt Lake City Homes: Home Improvements

Some of the homes in Salt Lake City, Utah have improvements that give better returns on investment than others.  Remodeling kitchens and baths and finishing basements are costly, but can give a significant increase in value.  However, big costly improvements to your Utah real estate should be done for your enjoyment, and not necessarily for the resale value of your Salt Lake City home because in most cases the initial increase in value of your home as a result of doing the improvement will usually be less than what you spent on it.

If the improvement is a must do, like replacing a roof that soon will be leaking, the cost of the roof could very well save you money by protecting the rest of the home from water damage and increase the value of the home from the new roof.

One other thing I’d mention, doing a big remodel yourself, without prior knowledge or experience can result in a shoddy looking job which can decrease the value or add little value to your Salt Lake City home.  Skilled Contractors do this every day, so choose projects that are within your abilities.
